PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable capacity swash plate type compressor, in which a swinging swash plate can certainly be restored even from the condition with the inclining angle zero and the minimum inclining angle of the swash plate can be set to near zero degree. SOLUTION: Through a hinge mechanism 23, a swash plate 22 is coupled operationally with a drive shaft 6 in such a way as capable of tilting and synchronously rotating relative to the shaft 6. The minimum inclining angle of the swash plate 22 is set to near zero (where the swash plate intersects perpendicularly to the drive shaft). On the drive shaft 6, an angle decreasing spring 26 and a return spring 27 are installed in such a way as pinching the swash plate 22. The return of swash plate 22 from near zero to the max. inclining angle is secured through cooperation of the moment a rotational motion acting in the inclining angle incremental direction in association with the rotation of the swash plate 22 and the moment on the basis of the energizing force of the return spring 27.
