Trench-filling method and device

A chassis (3) supporting the device and mounted on wheels or tracks (4) is dragged parallel to the trench by an excavator (1). Back-fill material is loaded into a hopper (12) by the excavator. The back-fill material is transferred by gravity through a grille at the bottom of the hopper onto a vibrating sieve and thence to a conveyor belt which tips the material sideways into the trench The vibrating sieve and conveyor belt are driven by motors mounted on the chassis. The conveyor can be moved in translation by a two-way jack to move from one side to the other of the chassis, and is driven by a reversible motor. The linkage to the excavator is an articulated beam (8) whose position is controlled by a series of levers and jacks (5, 6, 7). The chassis has means of being fixed to the linkage at each end. The sieve pivots relative to the chassis by means of a jack. Assembly for back-filling a trench using a chassis as above and an excavator, connected together by means of an articulated beam.
