PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a violation in the connection method of the bus system and to report it to a user. SOLUTION: Each time initial data transmitted from a master are passed through a slave, slave information D4, D5... is added for each prescribed data unit and position information P is exchanged (A, B and C). When the same slave information as the added slave information exists in a data stream, the position information P is switched at that position and slave information following the slave information is changed into loop information (D). The slave information also contains information showing whether the slave has a terminal or a branch point. By finally analyzing this data stream at the master, the connection style of bus is grasped and a loop position is specified.
