The device uses a radio aerial link to allow external programming of implant. The medically implanted device (12) includes a transmitter and receiver (121) connected to an aerial (130). This communicates with an interface module (15) which includes a corresponding receiver and transmitter (123) and aerial (131). The interface is connected to a management unit (13) with a computer and a display, with a circuit (128) within the interface providing the connection to the computer unit (13). The interface may also include a programming head, enabling the programming of the implant. The implant may be a cardiac stimulator, or other device for assisting cardiac operation.
