PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an illuminator which is reduced in power consumption, long in service life and low in operating temperature by providing a light source having plural arrays of a light emitting devices and an illumination equalizing means for equalizing the light emitted by the light source. SOLUTION: A light source 202 has a flat array of the light-emitting devices 204. The illumination equalizing means has a flat light distribution lens array 206 and a light converging lens 210. The light distribution lens array 206 is provided with many lenses 208, and the optical axis of the light-emitting device 204 is matched with that of a corresponding light distributing lens 208. The intermediate part of the light distributing lens 208 is formed of a negative lens, and the intensity of the light emitted by the light-emitting device 204 along the optical axis is distributed to the edge part of a light valve 212, such as a liquid crystal display. The edge part of the light distributing lens 208 is made as a positive lens and the light emitted by the edge part of the light- emitting device 204 is diverged, namely, bent of a small angle. Nonuniform light emitted by the light-emitting device 204 is rearrayed as a uniform light and is redistributed. |
