PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the short circuit of the coil of an electric motor such as a switched reluctance motor. SOLUTION: As to each of the first-phase coil, the second-phase coil, and the third-phase coil, current rise reference time Tr is found (step 1) from a reference current value Ir, and the current rise times Tx1, Tx2, and Tx3 to a reference current value from zero of the current value detected with a current sensor are measured (step ST2), and it is judged whether each of the current rise times Tx1, Tx2, and Tx3 is shorter than the reference time Tr or not (step STEP3), and if the condition that any one of the current rise times Tx1, Tx2, and Tx3 is shorter than the reference time Tr has continued for a given time, an abnormality flag is set, judging that there is a short circuit of a coil. |
