The shaft has radial magnetic bearings consisting of two axially separated magnet pairs (33,34 and 43,44). Coils (32,42) control the inner stator magnets (34,44) to maintain an axially central position. An axial safety bearing (45) incorporating an adjustable ball (27) or cone is provided in case of failure in the magnetic bearings. Electrical controls using a condenser or an accumulator ensure an axial bias towards the axial safety bearing (45) in case of electrical failure. Radial safety bearings (31,41) also run normally with a clearance. |
