Desulfuration of smokes and the setup for its implementation consists of contacting the smokes with an alkaline reagent for capturing sulfur dioxide and converting them into sulfites and/or bisulphites, and oxide. The latter is converted into sulfates during the acidification step of the washing liquid. The desulfuration of smokes by wet method comprising of SO2 consists of contacting the smokes in a wet vessel (4,54,154,204) with a washing liquid of controlled pH, by injection of an alkaline reagent such as dissolved lime, for capturing the SO2 and its conversion in sulfites and/or bisulphites and oxide (in 12, 62, 112, 162). The latter is then converted into sulfates during an acidification step of the washing liquid. It also comprises of a chemical dissolution step (in 20,70,120,170) of the lime from a coarse ground state (22,72,122,172) in the washing liquid.
