Production of an ion-exchange membrane comprising a polymer film comprises activating the film, grafting dissolved styrene and chloromethyl styrene on the film and functionalising the grafted groups by sulphonation using a sulphonation agent and then hydrolysing using a basic solution to give sulphonate groups on the styrene and alcohol groups on the chloromethyl styrene. The above obtained membrane, a separator and a fuel cell for alcohol-based fuel incorporating it are also claimed and the production of the separator by metallising the above membrane on both sides. |
