A flip-up helmet mount (16) for a viewing device (12), includes a plurality of nested relatively movable brackets (18, 72, 100). One of the brackets (100) carries a carriage (128) to which the viewing device is removably secured. The first bracket (18) is secured to a user's head by being fastened to a helmet (14). A second bracket (72) pivots relative to the first (18) providing flip-up motion for the viewing device. A third (100) of the nested brackets pivots on the second bracket to provide a tilt angle adjustment for the viewing device. To prevent breakage to the helmet mount (16) in the rough service environments, the third bracket (100) and carriage (128) are formed of a composite material (148) having a flexible elastomeric polymer matrix (148a) and a fibrous material (148b). |
