A drum driven by a stepping motor has four cam tracks, one of which is split for different reverse action. A cam follower in the split track moves the linked pistons (15a,15b) through levers to control the air supply for the end preparation and splicing phases, as well as the piston (28) that closes the cover (34) for the splicing chamber (12). The other tracks are linked mechanically to the yarn clamps, cutter and overlapping action.
