The fluid used for the calibration of a sensor to measure blood values is under a pressure from the sum of all the partial pressures which is equal to the total pressure on the stored fluid. The partial pressure of N2 at 37 deg C is lower than the normal physiological value of this pressure in the blood at this temperature, and is virtually zero. An Independent claim is included for the production of the calibration fluid (10) where one or more gases (11) are fed into the solution to form partial pressures where their sum is equal to the fluid pressure at a given temp. which forms a threshold at the pressure of a gas. Preferred Features: A solution is used which contains one or more dissolved and non-volatile materials, in a watery solution. The temperature set at the fluid differs from the dominant temperature at the sensor. The sum of all the partial pressures, at the fluid temperature, are selected so that after a change in the fluid temperature the sum of all the partial pressures at the sensor temperature is lower than the pressure loading on the fluid.
