The contact element has a blade contact area (2) for connection to a complementary contact element and at least two socket contact areas for connection to further complementary contact elements. A first socket contact area (3), that is designed to match the blade contact area, is arranged on a line with the blade contact area. Further socket contact areas (4,5) are arranged at right angles to the first socket contact area. An Independent claim is also included for an application of the contact element in a modular bus connection.
