Data is stored by cathode rays from one or more cathodes, forming molten craters in an electrically conductive layer, which is divided into write fields. Write lines and individual write points are formed during writing by meander-shaped control fields. The read-out is based on the same principle with reduced cathode voltage, during read-out the data as craters cause voltage changes in the write layer. The cathode rays are not deflected, but mechanically guided in lines over the write layer. The changes are evaluated as logic 0 and 1.
