Silicon carbide refractory - produced by firing with tialite

Refractory moulded body resistant to temp, changes is made by compressing and burning 60-90 wt.% granular SiC, esp. free from fine grains, and 40-10 wt.% tialite of finer grain-size than SiC, pref. consisting of 45 wt.% alpha-Al2O3, 45 wt.% TiO2 (rutile) and 10 wt.% ZrSiO4, in crude or pre-calcined condition of 0.1mm grain-size. Components and opt. a temporary binder, e.g. PVA are pounded are compressed, dried and fired at SK.
