A display device (1) comprises a first substrate (10), a second substrate (15) opposed to the first substrate (10), and a functional material layer (12) between the first substrate (10) and the second substrate (15). A plurality of signal electrodes (11) connected with a common signal line are formed on the first substrate (10). Scanning electrodes (13) are formed on the second substrate (15) in such a manner that they are opposed to the signal electrodes (11).
