A golf club such as a putter 10 comprises a head 11 connected to a shaft 12. The head 11 comprises an outer shell 15 defining a cavity 16 in which is received an insert 17. The insert 17 is arranged so that the sweet spot on the head 11 is at the centre of the circular face of the insert 17. The shaft 12 extends through the shell of the club head and is connected to the insert 17. The connection may be by means of a hosel member 13 fitted to the insert 17. The insert 17 may be made of a soft, ductile material such as bronze which facilitates the transmission of shock. As the shaft 12 is connected directly to the insert 17 and the insert 17 is spaced from the shell 15 and isolated from it by, for example, resilient O-rings 22, 25, any energy which is generated by hitting a golf ball is transmitted up the shaft without being dissipated in the club head. This provides the golfer with a greater 'feel' for the shot. A void 21 is left behind the insert and it has been found that the presence of this enhances the feel factor.
|
