The floor covering comprises a first mat underlayer (5) with an absorbent core and a second mat (2) with a high coefficient of friction forming the top layer. An arrangement for trapping environmentally harmful substances such as petrol, oil, solvents, coolant, acids or alkalis, comprises a first mat (5) with a core capable of absorbing the harmful substance, and a second mat (3) with a high coefficient of friction, over which objects and/or personnel can move. An Independent claim is also included for a method of trapping environmentally harmful substances using the above arrangement, where the substances are removed from the second mat and then reused or incinerated.
