PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the conversion processing time and to accelerate image processing by providing a conversion table, which stores 8-bit integer values corresponding to a bit pattern that uses higher order 16 bits of 32-bit floating point data as an index and a table lookup means, which performs table lookup of the conversion table with high order 16 bits. SOLUTION: This data format converting device is provided with a conversion table, which stores 8-bit integer values corresponding to bit patterns that uses high order 16 bits of 32-bit floating point data as an index. The converting device is provided with a table lookup means, which performs table lookup of the conversion table through the high order 16 bits and coverts the data in a 32-bit integer format into an 8-bit integer format. The conversion table is produced by changing the higher order 16 bits into 0 to 16<2> -1, registering 0 if it is 0 or less and 255 of it is 255 or more and registering 8-bit integer values, whose decimal point positions are rounded off when not <=0 nor >=255. Thus, frequent conversion processings in image processing, etc., can be accelerated. |
