Here, when the change amount of the inter-vehicle distance is in a prescribed stable range, a follow up control start judge part 24 judges that the follow up control mode following to the preceding car is started, when the change amount of the own car speed is in a prescribed stable range and the car speed control part 25 starts the control of the own car speed automatically so as to follow the preceding car, based on the car speed and the inter-vehicle distance before the start of this follow up control mode.
