PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a press mold for a glass substrate which prevents the failure of formed articles and dies, eliminates the pressure variation in die forming surfaces as far as possible and is capable of exerting a uniform pressure over the entire part of the forming surfaces. SOLUTION: The press mold 10 for the glass substrate is constituted to have an upper die 11 and a lower die 12 and a pressurizing means 13 for exerting the pressure on the upper die 11 and the lower die 12 and forms the planar gaseous substrate having a prescribed thickness between the upper die 11 and the lower die 12. The side part of the upper die 11 is projectingly provided with a detaining projection piece 20 and the side part of the lower die 12 is provided with a detaining projection piece supporting part 21 for supporting the detaining projection piece 20. These dies are so formed that the end of the upper die 11 parts from the lower die 12 with the detaining projection piece 20 as an axis of rotation. The pressure variation at the forming surfaces of the upper die 11 and the lower die 12 is detected. A buffer material 30 consisting of a material having the smaller yield strength of compression than that of the material constituting the lower die 12 is inserted between the lower die 12 and the pressurizing means 13 in the position corresponding to the forming surface portions where the pressure is low.
