<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve display quality by dissolving an inoperative region of liquid crystal generated in a region between electrodes for display and reference electrodes. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display comprises reference electrodes 4, extended almost orthogonally from a reference signal line and pixel electrodes located in parallel with the reference electrodes 4 which are formed on a plane, contacting liquid crystal, of a transparent substrate which is one of the transparent substrates placed opposite to each other via liquid crystal, and generates a rotating twist of molecules, which have been controlled to orient to the initial aligning direction of liquid crystal, by the electric field generated between the pixel electrodes and the reference electrodes 4, to control the transmittance of light passing between each of the electrodes. In this case, the reference electrodes 4 are constructed, together with the reference signal lines, near the part connecting to the reference signal lines, to orient the lines of electric force of the electric field generated toward the pixel electrodes in a direction at certain angular degrees from the initial aligning direction of liquid crystal or from the direction vertical to the initial aligning direction.</p> |
