PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the liquid crystal display device which can suppress a decrease in display quality and yield due to the presence of remaining shavings of an alignment layer which is grown large when rubbed. SOLUTION: Relating to a lateral magnetic field active matrix type liquid crystal display device which has a liquid crystal display element constituted by arranging an electrode substrate provided with scanning signal electrodes, video signal electrodes 15, pixel electrodes 3, a common electrode 2, active elements, and the alignment film 8 and a color filter substrate provided with a black matrix 25, a color filter 6, and an alignment layer 8' so that the alignment layers 8 and 8' face each other across a liquid crystal layer 10 and interposing spacers between both the substrates and applies an electric field to the liquid crystal layer 10 between the pixel electrodes 3 and common electrode 2 in parallel to the substrates 1 and 1', a barrier 26 which is shorter than the external size of the spacers for each pixel is provided in the area of the black matrix 25 other than the pixel areas on the opposite surface of the color filter substrate. |
