PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the effect of a phase noise on a light source that is a problem in the case of generating a high frequency signal such as a millimeter wave in optical heterodyne. SOLUTION: One and the same light source 1 is branched into two, a data modulator 4 applies data modulation to one light and a phase modulator shifts an optical frequency of the other light by a prescribed phase to produce an optical spectral line. When an optical branching coupler 6 makes the both confluent, since the lights are originated from the same light source, phase noise is automatically cancelled. |
