PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte replacement type storage battery utilizing elastic fibrous mat electrode plate separators. SOLUTION: Elastic electrode separators 26, 26' extend beyond peripheral end surfaces of electrode plates in an electrode plate stack of this storage battery 20, to surround at least main surfaces and a part or the whole of the electrode plate peripheral end surfaces 32, 34. An electrolyte pool is formed out of the electrode plate stack within the storage battery 20, and the elastic fibrous mat separators 26, 26' are preferably made of micro fiber, the density of which is substantially uniform in the entire thickness direction. Further, the separators may include one or two fibrous surface layers having relatively high density and high tensile strength, and a more elastic fibrous layer intervening between the two surface layers and having relatively low density. |
