<p>For use with an electronic item presentment system in which a payor financial institution (FI) transmits to a presenting FI a return item notification corresponding to an item presented by the presenting FI to the payor FI or in which the payor FI makes a determination that an item is "on-us," a system for, and a method of, alerting a payee of the item of the return item notification or determination. In one embodiment, the system includes: (1) an alert filter that determines whether the payee is to be alerted of the return item notification and (2) an alert transmitter, coupled to the alert filter, that generates an electronic alert message for the payee only when the alert filter determines that the payee is to be alerted of the return item notification. In another embodiment, the system includes: (1) an alert assembler that combines "on-us" data of the payor FI and data pertaining to the item to assemble an electronic alert message and (2) an alert transmitter, coupled to the alert assembler, that transmits the electronic alert message to the payee.</p> |
