PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power steering system with improved responsiveness of steering assistance while driving on a cant road. SOLUTION: A steering assistance force is generated by oil pressure generated by a pump which is driven by an electric motor. If inclination of a vehicle is detected (S1), and if it is at or greater than a predetermined fixed value, a countermeasure against cant is considered to be necessary (S3). If it is determined that the countermeasure against cant is necessary and that turning to the mountain side has been made (S6), necessity of starting up of a motor is determined (S7) based on the starting up condition for the cant. Since a starting up condition for the cant has a higher starting up sensitivity than ordinary starting up conditions (S4), the motor is started up with a small change in an steering angle, thereby generating a steering assistance force quickly. |
