PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit the sintering of noble metals and thereby enhance the durability of a catalyst. SOLUTION: This exhaust gas cleaning catalyst comprises more than 30 wt.% at least one kind of oxide selected from among CdO, CoO, CuO, Sc2 O3 , Nb2 O5 , Y2 O3 and ZnO based on the total metal oxides in a carrier. These oxides have the affinity which is powerful enough to form both composite oxide and metallic compound with a noble metal. Therefore, a noble metal forms a composite oxide and a metal compound with the oxide in a high temperature oxidation atmosphere and the stabilization and the inhibition of sintering of the noble metal are achieved. |
