The communication system has two telecopier terminals (30,130), indirectly connected to an information network (200). Each terminal is directly connected via a switched telephone network (201) to an access server (40,140). Messages at each server arrive at a memory or letterbox (41,141) in each server. The system uses timed communication signals.
