An infinitely-variable mechanical gear has a chain running between two sprocket wheel assemblies. One sprocket wheel assembly is formed by two co-axial conical discs or conical wheels, whose conical surfaces face each other. The gear change is effected by relative axial motion between the two, pref. symmetrically to a notional mid-plane between them.
