A container for backfilling underground workings comprises a flexible rectangular bag which is fitted over an adjustable support frame and filled with water borne backfill. The water drains out of the container leaving the backfill to set and support the strata. The containers are secured to the frames by their upper edges and are height adjustable to fill the space between the floor and ceiling of the underground working. One side of the container wall can be secured to the roadway support frames (16) for securing side faces.
