Apparatus for removing organic components from sand by countercurrent washing, comprises a vertical tube in which a rotating shaft is placed. The shaft is equipped with one or more fittings and is driven by a motor. An inlet worm is present for addition of the sand to the upper part of the tube. An outlet tube for dirty water is present above the point of entry of the sand. The lower part of the vertical tube is in a conical shape, ending in a cylindrical support which is linked to two, upper and lower, outlet worms. The upper outlet worm is somewhat longer than the lower outlet worm. The lower outlet worm is equipped with supports for addition of washing water.
