Process to determine the fatty acid content of milk from cows fed on a diet. In a process for the controlled production of dairy goods esp. butter, cream, yoghurt or similar, the raw milk is drawn cows fed on a diet of full-fat oilseed rape or oil seed rape pressed cake. Milk samples are taken at the dairy farm at regular intervals. Oil is extracted from each sample by admixture with a solvent, followed by methylisation. The acid fat composition is then determined by gas chromatography. The sample results are then evaluated using a personal computer and classified according to the content of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. The classification results are used as one of the determining factors upon the basis of which the purchase organization sets the price for the raw milk, and is automatically calculated by computer using look-up tables.
