Piperidinone derivative, process for obtaining it and process for using it. The derivative is called (+-) ethyl trans-4-(4- fluorophenyl)-2-piperidinone-3-carboxylate, the process for obtaining it comprises the hydrogenation of a diethyl 2-[2-cyano-1-(4-fluorophenyl)ethyl]malonate intermediate II in the presence of a catalyst and cyclising this and the process for using it results in the production of (+- ) trans-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-hydroxymethyl-piperidine.
