PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) communication system capable of testing various functions of an ATM network, while using a managing cell. SOLUTION: Each of plural cell processors provided in an ATM communication system is equipped with a cell synchronizing/scrambling part (CSD), a routing tag adding processing part (RTA), a routing tag deleting processing part (RTD) and a descrambling part (CIS), and a cell satisfying predetermined conditions is branched from a cell stream passing between the CSD and the RTA or between the RTD and the CIS. In addition, the cell of any arbitrary format is inserted to the cell stream, and the cell branched from one side is inserted to the other side so as to establish a lop back.
