PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the gateway device that enhances voice quality in a voice data transmission reception system utilizing the Internet. SOLUTION: The device 18 is provided with a central processing unit 19, a ROM 20, a RAM 21, a network I/F section 26 that is an Internet interface, a network control section 22, an AD/DA conversion section 23, a voice compression/expansion section 24, a network status discrimination section 28 that generates an IP address to bypass voice data to a predetermined gateway device based on the status of the network, a voice data delivery destination revision section 27 that generates a communication packet to deliver the voice data to an object destination via one or pluralities of gateway devices based on the IP address for bypass and an IP address from a host device, and a communication control section 25 that controls the network I/F section 26, the voice data delivery destination revision section 27 and the network status discrimination section 28.
