<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain satisfactory recording by reproducing a recorded signal to detect the last track of a frame and setting the position of a leading track in accordance with the next recording mode at the time of performing consecutive recording in plural modes different by recording medium feeding speeds. SOLUTION: A system controller 189 controls a speed servo circuit 173 in accordance with a recording mode and temporarily rewinds the tape by a proper extent to reproduce the signal and detects the recording mode based on recorded information obtained from sub-code data. If this recording mode is equal to the recording mode for next recording, the target position of tracking is left as it is; but if it is different from the recording mode for next recording, a timing generator 177 is controlled to change the target position of tracking to a prescribed position by a pilot processing circuit 135. Thus, the trailing part of each track is taken as the target of tracking, and the last track of the frame is detected to start recording at the timing of the leading track of the next frame.</p> |
