A disposable absorbent article which is substantially flat prior to use for wearing adjacent a body discharge area having a longitudinal centreline and a lateral centreline orthogonal thereto and defining longitudinal and lateral directions respectively. The disposable absorbent article comprises a liquid pervious topsheet, a backsheet joined to said topsheet and an absorbent core intermediate the backsheet and the topsheet. The absorbent core comprises means for expanding the article into a tridimensional structure while being worn by a user. The article further comprises shrinkable means for inducing forming or bending of the article in combination with the expanding means.
