<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce restrictions on design of a lamp and ensure a required overhead sign irradiation in a head lamp for a vehicle provided with an upward lens step for overhead sign irradiation. SOLUTION: An upward lens step 12s3 for polarizing and transmitting light reflected from a reflector as upward light when an auxiliary light is on, is formed as a relief extending in a crossbar shape, and upward polarization angles are differently set for an upper area and a lower area. By this constitution, a single upward lens step 12s3 can implement overhead sign irradiation having a required irradiation width between upper and lower areas of the illumination and can reduce restrictions on design of a lamp. The upward direction lens step 12s3 is formed so as to join two prism steps 12s3A and 12s3B having different upward inclining angles without making a difference in level in a vertical direction. By this construction, the upward lens step 12s3 is formed easily, and the respective prism steps 12s3A and 12s3B polarize light reflected from a reflector in the respective upward directions uniformly, thus achieving easy control of a quantity of light of the overhead sign illumination.</p> |
