PURPOSE:To provide the subject novel compound useful as a selective herbicide. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula I (R is lower alkyl; A is H, F or Cl; X is O or S; Y is H, F, Cl or Br; Z is methyl or amino), for example, 5,7-difluoro-4-methoxycarbonylamino-2-methylbenzo[b]furan. This compound can be obtained by reaction of (A) a compound of formula II with (B) a compound of formula CH3-E (E is Cl, Br, I or methanesulfonyloxy) or a compound of formula NH2-G (G is methanesulfonyloxy, P-toluenesulfonyloxy or 2,4-dinitrophenoxy). |
