The display unit comprises an array of cavities (10) with openings onto a display surface (20), each cavity containing a fluid (30) capable of emerging from the cavity through its opening, where the internal wall of each cavity is provided with a polymer (60) whose hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties are selectable by an external constraint, and barriers (50) to prevent contact between fluids emerging from different cavities.
