Syringe with retractable needle

The syringe consists of a barrel (10) with a needle (19) attached to an axially-moving holder (18) which is able to extend from the barrel to give an injection and be retracted by the plunger at the end of the injection stroke. The needle holder incorporates a flexible tongue (50) which interacts with the inner surface of the barrel once it has been retracted, pushing the needle to one side to prevent accidental sticking.
