The drive system has a number of different main and ancillary units (12, 14, 24, 26), e.g. diesel engines, hydraulic motors, electrical generators. Each of these is coupled to a controller (16, 18, 28, 30) that are supported on a CAN bus (20). This connects with a main controller (34) via a drive controller (22) that has a bus converter stage (36).
