The ladder may be leant against the wall of a house and the user may walk up the rungs, the boards (1) being in their raised position. The ladder may be laid horizontally, with one end supported on a roof or parapet by extensions (4), and the other end supported by legs (6). The boards may be rotated about their hinges (5) so that they lie flat on the rungs and form a board walkway extending across the width of the ladder between the stringers. There may be a row of slits (10) in the boards, near their hinged edges.
