PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new silicon-containing cyclic compound having a double bond, its efficient production and an electroluminescent element containing an excellent electron transfer material. SOLUTION: This silicon-containing cyclic compound has an exo-double bond or a trans-double bond in the ring. The compound is produced by cyclizing a compound having two or more of terminals comprising a vinylsilyl group in the presence of a ruthenium-containing material having a Ru-H or Ru-Si bond or capable of forming the Ru-H bond or the Ru-Si bond in a reaction system. This electroluminescent element contains a silicon-containing cyclic compound containing an aryl group or a heteroaryl group and having an exo- double bond as an electron transfer material.
