<p>The shaft portions (20-1, 21-1) of screw rotors (20, 21) are axially loaded to offset the thrust loading of the screw rotors due to forces exerted on the screw rotors by fluid being compressed and tending to move the screw rotors from the discharge towards suction. This permits the elimination of the thrust bearings. Preferably, the discharge end of the lobes of the rotors is beveled canted so as to generate a hydrodynamic film during operation. <IMAGE></p> |
