PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately cope with the pressure rise in an ink channel derived from choking of a filter by providing a controlling means for detecting the flow resistance value in the ink channel and stopping an ink circulating means according to the flow resistance value. SOLUTION: A pressure sensor 42 is provided in a channel between a pressure valve 22 and a filter 41 at the ink jet recording head 3 side so that the change of the flow resistance in the ink channel can be detected. A means for outputting a signal for the filler 41 replacement according to a predetermined flow resistance value is provided. The pressure P is measured by the pressure sensor 42 and compared with a predetermined pressure Pm. In the case the relationsip of the pressures is P>=Pm, operation of an ink supply device 10 is stopped. Accordingly, pressure rise in the ink channel derived from choking of the filter can be dealt with.
