The locking mechanism consists of hollow extrusions (A, A') forming the door edge and surrounding frame, the facing surfaces of which have elongated rectangular recesses for a bolt (B). The bolt is a lengthwise strip fitted into one of the two recesses with hinges (7,8,9) and is actuated by levers (41) to engage with the opposite recess. Bolts set in two or more door edge recesses have their actuating levers connected by toothed belt and pulley inside the door edge extrusions.
