In order to control short hold mode in permanent connections in a communication network, the meter pulse is used to define a time interval. To this end, the user predetermines a time interval and connection is deactivated once said time interval has elapsed. A disconnection time interval is calculated on the basis of the predetermined time interval by means of the unit charges.
