A two speed drive for the blower for cooling an IC engine has two parallel belt drives (16,19) to power the input shaft (6) of a fluid clutch which couples to the fan blades. The main belt drive (16) has its output pulley (14) fitted with a freewheel clutch (15). If the engine speed drops, a solenoid (25) operates a clutch (21) to activate the second belt drive (19) which drives the blower at a faster speed, with the freewheel clutch disengaging the first belt drive. The blower speed can be further controlled via the fluid clutch.
